Kenya Water Towers Agency and Mama Doing Good Inks an MOU on 3 Million Seedlings.

The two organizations committed to cooperating on climate action that will see Mama Doing Good raise three million seedlings following a donation of three million potting bags by Kenya Water Towers Agency. The agencies were represented by Dr John Chumo and Prof Julius Tanui from Mama Doing Good and Kenya Water Towers Agency respectively, and were accompanied by other staff members who witnessed the signing ceremony.Prof. Julius Tanui said that the partnership’s main pillar is Environment and Climate Action, and he is delighted to work with Mama Doing Good in conserving and rehabilitating the degraded water towers through the women empowerment program. Dr. John Chumo said that the partnership seeks to address climate change since it mostly affects women by limiting access to clean water. He further added that the program allows women to participate in the conservation of water towers across the country. Mama Doing Good has 200,000 women registered under 16,000 groups countrywide. The groups are the ones targeted to establish tree nurseries and sell the seedlings to the government. In the larger Mama Doing Good Environment and Climate Action pillar, 17 million learners in schools across the country are targeted in a program that includes fruit trees, bamboo, and mangrove propagation. Mama Doing Good initiatives aim to plant 500 million trees by the year 2032. The partnership witnessed today will initially start with Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, and Kakamega counties. This will serve two major water towers- Cherangany Hills and Elgon. Mama Doing Good is an initiative driven by the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, Mama Rachel Ruto.
