I am committed to ensuring full operation of the regional offices
July 25, 2019
The Acting Director General Prof. Julius Tanui has confirmed that he is on course in ensuring that the regional offices operate seamlessly. The offices based in Marsabit, Kitui, Mombasa, Nyeri, Narok, Eldoret, Kitale and Kisumu are very key in coordinating and overseeing conservation of water towers in the country. In 2018, the Agency recruited 61 new members of staff. “Most of them were deployed to the regional offices as water towers offices and regional coordinators,” Prof Tanui said. Following the approval of the new staff establishment by the State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC), the Agency has sought funding from the National Treasury to finance recruitment of 71 more staff. This will address the current understaffing levels in the Agency.
Prof Tanui thanked the CS for Environment and Forestry Keriako Tobiko for his good leadership in spearheading conservation of water towers. He particularly appreciated his support during the visit to Meru County where over 3,000 seedlings were planted and commitments to sponsor schools and communities in conservation were made. These included providing beehives and water harvesting tanks pledged by all the SAGAs under the Ministry. Prof Tanui also thanked the CS for sending the PS Dr Ibrahim Mohamed and CAS Hon Mohamed Elmi to represent him during the launch of the National Bamboo Demonstration Site in Elgeiyo-Marakwet County that was held on 18th July 2019.
